Our Program
Mountain River Program Sessions
We have a program for children who are in need of a place where they feel safe, loved and have time all their own. We call this time a session and it is the heart of what we do here at Mountain River, love children and horses.
A session is 45-90 minutes in length depending on the age of the child and every child is teamed with their own horse and their own leader for the entire session. Together the child and leader might choose how to help around the ranch or volunteer with a task, and then groom, tack up and ride their horse. Typically, the activities depend on the needs of the child that day and sometimes the weather. Our horses are special (some are older and retired, some in rehab) because all of them are willing to love the children we trust them with. It is amazing to watch the bonds and friendships that are built during a child’s time at the ranch, creating memories they can keep forever.
At the ranch we do have both indoor(covered) and outdoor riding areas to use, yet children and their families still will want to dress for the weather on their day.
Winter 2012
Sessions during the winter are limited, arrangements can be made if there is a unique need. Our regular season is from the first of March to Thanksgiving. We are open during the winter for community service, volunteer training and special circumstances. Please feel free to call and inquire.
Our first After-School at the Ranch is coming! February 24th, 4pm-6pm ages 6-17 are welcome to join us for an afternoon of fun. Please dress for being inside or outside and bring a release form found on our website. RSVP please.

- Erma’s Books for Christmas – Every Christmas we collect children’s books about horses so each child can receive one as a gift from everyone at the ranch. Our hope is to support their efforts to read and encourage their education.

No Fees
We do not charge for any part of our program to make it available for most children. We are supported through the kindness and generosity of our donors.
Release Form
Please bring a signed release form for each person coming to the ranch.
